The Wild & Wonderful Awaits At The Blank Park Zoo

Explore your wild side and discover the exotic at the Blank Park Zoo just minutes from downtown Des Moines. Spend a day exploring 25 acres of lush parkland where more than 1,400 different mammals, birds and reptiles play and plenty of entertaining activities await at this enchanting destination for visitors young and old.
Visit with majestic African lions, stunning Siberian tigers and hilarious golden-headed Tamarin monkeys. Feed the parakeets, ostrich and giraffes or take a ride on the camel. Hop aboard the zoo train, take a spin on the carousel or experience a behind the scenes tour to see wallabys, penguins, tortoise, and more. Gate admission is $14 adults; $11 seniors (65+); $8 children (3-12); Kids 2 years and under enter free. Discount tickets available online.

Hours -

Open daily from 10am-4pm (October-April) and from9am-5pm (May-September). Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

  • Does the zoo offer behind the Scenes tours?

    Yes, visitors have 7 different options for a private Behind the Scenes tour. Each tour includes one-on-one time with a zoo keeper and a chance for up-close encounters with animals like wallabys, rhinos, lions, tortoise, sea lions, and giraffes. Private tour prices are $100 adults (12+) and $50 kids. Reservations are required at least 2 weeks in advance and tours are limited to 6 guests and minimum age limits apply.   • Does the zoo Offer animal feeding experiences?

    Yes, with a special feeding, visitors can enjoy an up-close visit with their favorite zoo animals. Parakeet, ostrich and giraffe feedings are offered from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and visitors can enjoy feeding the fish and animals in the Kids Kingdom all year long. Animal treats can be purchased for $1-$2 each Feed bundles can be purchased for $5.50 each and include food for the parakeet, ostrich, giraffe, kid's kingdom animal s and fish.
